NATIONAL FAIR HOUSING TRAINING ACADEMY
2008 IAOHRA/NAHRW JOINT CONFERENCE

The National Fair Housing Training Academy (NFHTA) is please to be partnering with the International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies (IAOHRA) and the National Association of Human Rights Workers (NAHRW) at their joint conference to be held September 14-19, 2008 - MotorCity Casino Hotel - Detroit, Michigan. NFHTA will offer weeks 2 and 4 during the conference.

National Fair Housing Training Academy (NFHTA) attendees for Weeks 2 and 4 should arrive no later than the morning of Sunday, Sept. 14; the beginning session for NFHTA begins at 1 PM on Sunday, Sept. 14. Note that the conference will not be providing breakfast or refreshments for breaks; the only meals that are included as part of the general conference are lunch on Monday and Tuesday, and dinner on Wednesday evening; also, lunch will be provided at the off-site program on Thursday, but not for NFHTA attendees as they will remain on-site for NFHTA training. Therefore, be sure to arrange for your own meals for breakfasts and for breaks.

Week 2 Training Courses - Kaaba Brunson (Instructor)
1) The Psychological Impact of Racial Discrimination: This one-day course will explore the psychological turmoil and hurt resulting from racial discrimination.
2) Reasonable Accommodations and Modifications: This one-day course will explore the reasonable accommodation and modification provisions of the Fair Housing Act and other fair housing laws.
3) Discovery Techniques and Evidence: This three-day course will provide the techniques for conducting discovery and collecting evidence for a fair housing case.

Week 4 Training Courses (Jean Ishmon)
1) Standards for Testing Cases: This one-day course is designed to enhance the ability of investigators to process testing evidence in an investigation and effectively analyze and evaluate those results. This course will give participants a brief introduction to the standards of testing, focus on the skills that are needed to determine whether a test has been properly conducted and how to read and analyze testing results
2) Briefing Techniques for Complaint Investigations: This two-day course will train investigators to summarize the essential elements of a fair housing complaint investigation and present case findings.
3) Fair Housing Investigation Review and Application: This two-day course will provide investigators with a review and discussion of fair housing laws theories of proof, investigative process and skills, discovery techniques, rules of evidence, negotiating skills, damage calculations and the application of these skills in a simulated investigative situation.
